about elyse and Gerardo

Gerardo Sanchez, who has completed a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Drama, discovered the tango dance when he was writing a play in which he wanted to integrate a tango performance. He then founded the Tango Libre Dance Company in 1993 and started giving classes and creating tango shows. Throughout the years, he was also invited to teach in Europe (Russia, Poland, Czech Republic), South Korea and Cuba. In 2003, he founded the International Tango Festival of Montreal which hosts its yearly edition every summer since 17 years.

Elyse Dagesse took her first tango steps back in 2007. She trained at the Tango Libre studio with Gerardo Sanchez and numerous Argentine guest dancers and is now running the Tango Libre school with Gerardo as a teacher and coordinator. She is also involved in the organization of the International Tango Festival of Montreal and of the 24 Hours of Tango for Parkinson's, a fundraising event that takes place yearly in December.

Together, Gerardo and Elyse have designed adapted classes for people living with Parkinson's disease. They have been working hand in hand with ‘Parkinson Québec’ to share the passion and benefits of the tango dance to those living with Parkinson's and their caregivers.
